Ask Flex

How do you get up for work on time?

"How do I get up for work on time? I set five alarms and I'm still late."You asked Google. Flex answered.
Flex the robot peeking around the office door in the morning light, his shadow on the wall shaped like a huge scary pile, while the only thing on his desk is one small sticky note under a lamp, with little Clawd holding the door open
Flex's short answer

Count backward from the minute you have to walk out the door, add up what your morning really takes, and set the alarm from that number. Then move whatever you can to the night before, so the morning has fewer steps.

✱ Flex's tips

Count backward from the door.

1

Time one real morning

Alarm to door. The real number, not the hoped one.

2

Add ten minutes

Something always goes missing.

3

Set a bedtime alarm too

Getting up starts the night before.

4

Set one alarm you trust

Five alarms teach you to sleep through four.

Try this in your own Claude or ChatGPT

I need to walk out the door at [time]. Here's everything I do in the morning and about how long each thing takes: [list it]. Add it up, add ten minutes of cushion, and tell me what time my alarm should be. Then tell me which steps I could do the night before to make that alarm later. Use only the times I gave you.

✱ What people ask
How do I get up early for work?

Move bedtime first. An earlier alarm without an earlier night just makes you tired.

How do I get up for work when I'm tired?

Make the first ten minutes easy: clothes out, coffee ready, nothing to decide.

What if I can't get out of bed for work?

Shrink the first step to feet on the floor. Flex has a page on it.
